Frequently
Asked Questions |
| Is Nu-Image®
Guardian™ the Same as Strongid C?
Yes and No, Nu-Image® Guardian™
contains the same active ingredient, Pyrantel tartrate, but in a
concentrated amount (2X formula) and has a coat conditioner supplement
built in for a show-quality coat every day! Nu-Image® Guardian™
(Pyrantel tartrate) has been clinically proven in the control of
specific parasites and is approved by the FDA.
Is Nu-Image® Guardian™
safe for my horse?
Yes, Nu-Image® Guardian™
is recommended for all horses (especially young horses, mares in
foal or lactating, breeding stallions, performance, and senior horses)
and has a clean safety record to date.
Can I over feed Nu-Image® Guardian™?
No, not likely. Nu-Image® Guardian™
can be fed 25 times the recommended dosage level without ill affects.
Is Nu-Image® Guardian™
safe for the environment?
Yes, the active ingredient Pyrantel
tartrate after passing through your horse quickly breaks down in
direct sunlight. Most interesting is the fact that it is not known
to be absorbed through the horse’s gut wall while paralyzing
parasites in the digestive tract. Because of this, Nu-Image®
Guardian™ is harmless to beneficial insects, soil, and ground
water and allows manure from treated horses to be spread over pastures
without concern. |

| Parasite Identification
and Risk Group |

Virtually
all horses are exposed to parasites and understanding the types of
internal parasite allows you essential information to decide which
strategy to protect your horse. Below is a Major Internal Parasites
table showing what groups are most at risk to infection and disease:

Internal
parasites are a serious threat to a horse’s health. Severe
infestations can cause diarrhea, impaction, anemia, weight loss,
and colic. This threat requires careful health management for your
horse. Two basic strategies are, Periodic (purge) or Continuous dewormers for internal parasite control. Periodic
strategies involve the use of either Macrocylic Lactones (Ivermectin
and Moxidectin) or Benzimidazoles (Fenbendazole, Oxybendazole, and
Oxfendazole). Continual de-wormer protection focuses on the use
of Pyrantel tartrate with the use of a boticide (Ivermectin) twice
a year in early spring and late fall. The benefit of a continuous
strategy is that your horse is always safe in a controlled de-wormer
program. It also makes economic sense to use a lower cost anthelmintic
when you are not specifically targeting bots. Your horse’s
health and performance will be the final outcome when you successfully
implement a good de-wormer program. Always consider your horse’s
age, environment, use, and your veterinarian’s recommendation
before selecting any de-wormer program. |

Nu-Image®
Guardian (Pyrantel tartrate) is to be administered on a
continuous basis as a top dress on the horse’s daily ration.
Feed at the rate of 1.2 mg Pyrantel tartrate per pound of body
weight per day. To achieve this dose, administer 0.5 ounces of
Nu-Image® Guardian per 250 lb of body weight (measuring
scoop included with product). Please see chart below for dosage
instructions. Nu-Image® Guardian should be administered
for the entire period that the animal is at risk to internal parasites.
Unprotected animals that have grazed may already have an established
S. vulgaris larval infestation. Before administrating Nu Image®
Guardian these animals should be treated with a therapeutic
dose of a larvicidal product.
Foals may be fed Nu-Image® Guardian at such time
when consistent intake of grain mix is occurring. This is generally
between two and three months of age.
Nu-Image® Guardian may be used in mares at any stage
of pregnancy or lactating. Stallion fertility is not affected
by the use of Nu-Image® Guardian. |
